Resin Transfer Molding (RTM)


Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) is a multi-staged closed-mould process for mass production - 100 to 500+ units/year - of high-quality composite fiberglass or fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) parts. RTM involves placing a fiber preform in a matched mould tool, then injecting a thermosetting resin matrix into the closed mould cavity at low pressure. Light RTM has taken the lead as the most popular closed moulding process for low to medium volume applications such as Marine, Automotive, Industrial, Wind Power and Medical composite moulding applications; applications which require two finished sides and close dimensional tolerances.

FormaShape has been a pioneer in the advancement and application of the Light RTM process. In the past 5 years, we have converted to Light RTM on over 80% of our annual fiberglass production (approximately 750,000 sq. feet). Closed moulded fabrication through RTM offers a number of advantages.
